Relflections on Dreamforce 2024

As Dreamforce 2024 wrapped up and attendees departed from SFO to destinations all around the world, I was left with two lingering thoughts that encapsulate my experience. I wanted to capture them to share.

First, I’m in awe of Salesforce’s relentless innovation. After a few years away from Dreamforce, this was my first time participating remotely, and I was glued to my desk, absorbing every keynote and presentation. The emphasis on AI and Agentforce was exhilarating, and I can’t wait to dive in with my customers to implement these powerful tools. The practical applications for organizations that are short-staffed or looking to streamline operations with AI are undeniable. Agentforce, in particular, seems poised to revolutionize the way we think about servicing constituents in the nonprofit world, and I’m excited to help my clients navigate its potential.

The second is my first Dreamforce experience back in 2012. I remember colleagues reminiscing about past Dreamforces referencing each one not by the year but by the bands that performed. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the top Dreamforce band up to that point. I joined in December and it was a wild ride until October.

The day of Dreamforce arrived with the typical misty, fog-filled San Francisco morning. My first stop was not the keynote or the bustling expo floor, but the depths of Moscone South – the "war room" for Support. My team was there to provide technical backup for Marc Benioff’s keynote and critical demos. We were on call, prepared to jump in at any moment to troubleshoot issues.

A memory that stands out was being in copy of my first email from Marc. It was a one-liner, diffusing a tense conversation between executives with the simple words, "I see nothing but happiness." The keynote went off without a hitch, and once everything stabilized, I had the chance to explore Dreamforce for myself.

I emerged from the basement into a different San Francisco – the fog had lifted, and sunshine filled the sky. Moscone South, North, and West were packed with throngs of happy customers. Up until that point, my job running Tier 3 and Developer Support meant I usually interacted with frustrated or stressed-out customers.

Seeing all those happy faces, I realized how fortunate I was to be part of Salesforce. The energy was infectious. It was my first taste of just how special this community is, and it set the tone for many Dreamforces to come.

I’ve made it a point to participate in every Dreamforce and find ways to contribute to the community that has given me so much. Whether it was handing out physical manuals in the days before Trailhead or pulling shifts in the Developer Zone, each experience helped me grow both personally and professionally.

I’ve helped teammates prepare  for their presentations – the dreaded 8 a.m. slot the morning after the big concert is to be avoided. I’ve also spent time in the Executive Briefing Center (and yes, the coffee *is* better!).

Through all of it, one thing remains constant: Dreamforce is about connection. It's about sharing knowledge, celebrating successes, and lifting each other up. Whether I’m supporting from behind the scenes or out in front helping customers, I’ve always walked away feeling more energized and grateful to be part of this incredible community.

As I reflect on Dreamforce 2024 and compare it to my first Dreamforce all those years ago, the core of what makes it special remains the same. It’s the people, the innovation, and the sense of belonging. I’m already looking forward to next year and the opportunity to continue learning, growing, and giving back.

Here’s to many more Dreamforces!
